Agri located at the Eastern Anatolia is the spot connecting Anatolia to Iran. The city taking its name from Agri Mountain has been a gate for the civilizations coming from Central Asia to Anatolia. Due to seeing the city as a transition gate to Anatolia, these civilisations did not establish fundamental settlements.

Tourist Attractions

Agri is one of the cultural and historical cities of Turkey in addition to its natural beauties. Agri Mountain, Ishak Pasha Palace, Meteor Hole, Diyadin Hot Springs, Meya Caves, Balık Lake (Fish Lake), Beyazıt Castle and Gurbulak Customs Station are the main tourist places of the city that you should visit.

Agri Mountain, an extinct volcano with a height of 5.137 m, is the second highest mountain of the world. Located near the intersection of Turkey, Armenian and Iran and 15 km away from Dogubeyazit district Agri Mountain is also the highest mountain of Turkey. From 4.000 high, the mountain is covered with snow. Also, there is a small Agri Mountain with a 3.896 m height next to the big one. You will be fascinated when viewing Agri Mountain.

Ishak Pasha Palace located on a hill 5 km away from Dogubeyazıt district is the biggest palace of the last times after Istanbul Topkapi Palace. Being a substantial historic and cultural structure, you should exactly pay a visit to this artifact when coming to Agri.

The world's second biggest Meteor Hole after Alaska will captivate you.

Kudret Bridge is a natural bridge formed by Murat River. You should encounter this 30 m high and 30 m long bridge.

Culture & Entertainment

Agri preserves the authentic Anatolian culture. Handloom of carpets and kilims, weaving pullovers and hoses, goods made up of wheat and rye handles, making felt, folk music are the important components of the traditional culture. The authentic plays of Agri are pretty pervasive and most of them are accompanied by drums and horns.


Beekeeping adds to the culture and cuisine of the city. The most delicious flower honey of Turkey is produced here.

The delicious trout in Balik Lake enables angling in Agri. Without experiencing and tasting these luscious trout, you should not leave the city.

Agri Mountain is eligible for climbing and camping. You should participate in the domestic and foreign tourist groups to experience camping at the hill side and the peaks of Agri Mountain.

Guneykaya Skiing Center being 36 km away from the centrum offers you to enjoy skiing between November and March.

Food & Drink

As a consequence of cattle breeding to be pervasive and the main means of existence, consumption of meat and animal products are preferred at Agri. Due to the uncongenial climate in the city not permitting the vegetable agriculture, cereal keeps a crucial place in the cuisine of the city. You should taste abidagor kofte (meatball) and white honey special to the city.

The passages at Dogubeyazit district are the most known shopping centers of Agri. You will be able to find authentic and general goods at cheaper prices than metropol cities.

Old Van Street at the center of the city is famous with its cheese with plant. You should taste it.

Honey produced at Aladag and Sinek Plateaus is pretty delicious. You can find it at the centrum. At the city center, you can find pollen peculiar to the city.

The places at Dogubeyazit district selling authentic carpets and kilims (rugs) are famous. You should buy these authentic motives as memory or gift.
